How We Turned Humming and Guide Vocals into a Real Singer's Voice

On July 19 and 20, 2026, the AMORPH founding team designed a custom conversion process that turns humming and guide vocals recorded in a male voice into the voice of a real female singer. As a result, a man's humming or guide recording alone was enough to produce a natural-sounding recording, as if a real female singer had sung it.

A guide vocal is a reference recording sung before the official recording, to convey the melody and the feel of the lyrics to the singer who will perform the song. Humming is voicing only the melody with the mouth closed and no lyrics. This article does not disclose the identities of the client or the target singer. It covers, in order, the problem the client faced, how it was solved and the result.

Can humming recorded by a man be converted into a female singer's voice?

In this project, yes. The AMORPH founding team first analyzed the melody, breath and expression of the source, then designed a conversion process fitted to the target singer and produced a natural-sounding recording, as if a real female singer had sung it.

This answer applies only to this project. This one case does not show that the same result would come from other voices or other songs.

Problem: large differences in tone, range and vocal technique

The client wanted to convert humming or guide vocals recorded in a male voice into the voice of a real female singer. With such large differences in tone, range and vocal technique, it was important to get a natural result while keeping the melody and nuance of the source.

  • Tone is the characteristic quality of a voice that makes each person sound different even on the same pitch.
  • Vocal range is the span from the lowest to the highest note a voice can produce.
  • Vocal technique is the way a person uses breath and throat to produce their voice.

Solution: analyzing melody, breath and expression first

The AMORPH founding team closely analyzed the melody, breath and expression of the source, then designed a custom conversion process so that the target singer's tone and vocal characteristics carry through naturally.

Result: a recording from a man's humming that sounds sung by a female singer

A man's humming or guide recording alone was enough for the AMORPH founding team to produce a natural-sounding recording, as if a real female singer had sung it.

Can a woman's guide vocal be converted into a male singer's voice, too?

Using the same approach, the AMORPH founding team also set up conversion in the opposite gender direction, from a woman's humming or guide vocal into a male singer's voice. However, the actual output of this case is the recording that converted a man's recording into a female singer's voice.
